Back pain is the second most common reason for people visiting their GP, it’s estimated to account for around 7 million visits annually. The majority of the sufferers are aged between 35-55 and it’s often due to lifestyle and not a specific illness or medical condition.
Whether or not your pain has been diagnosed as being a specific condition, such as Lordosis or Sciatica, you don’ t have to spend the rest of your life on medication. In some cases, surgery or long term prescription medication is necessary, but more often than not the pain can be significantly reduced through massage techniques, as well as strengthening and stretching the muscles which are causing the discomfort.
It is important you do see your GP, to rule out any illnesses which may be the cause of your problems and to check you don’t have a prolapsed disc. If these have been ruled out and you’re left with resorting to medication to get you through the day, then this is where the Massage Therapy comes in. The medical profession are beginning to recognise the many benefits of massage therapy, so speak to your GP about how it could help you.
